Conditioning

Body Conditioning
"Mermere Tokat", or literally translated "Slapping a Stone" was a hand conditioning technique used by some Turkic Khanets as prepetory exercise before warfare.  This conditioning technique involved covering a smooth surfaced stone such as granit with olive oil and repeatedly slapping it with a relaxed open palm to the beat of the war drums.  This created a relaxed but effective open palm slap for the trained warrior.  Although this type of conditioning using a stone is not necessary today, GokNur system does use lighter less damaging striking materials in similar fashion of training to teach body weight distribution etc.  Typically sand bags of different shapes and sizes are used.
Weight Training
Training with weights is an important aspect of GokNur System.  It was customary for Pehlivans to start their training season by carrying a new born calf up a hill daily.  This exercise continued up until the calf was six month old.  Pehlivans also picked up and moved around large milling stones called "Gobek Tasi."  They also trained with make shift devices that resebled barbells.  Although these methods are still practiced in some geographic areas, now it is mostly replaced with modern methods of weight training.
Dynamic Strength Training
Girya (Kettle Bell), Topuz (Mace, weighted clubs) are used extensively in GokNur strength training routines.
