Hancer is a curved knife where either or both sides of the blade are sharpened.
Hancer is also the name given to one of the close quarters weapons systems utilizing this type of blade with in the GokNur Martial Arts curriculum. As a blade,
Hancer has four distinct grip positons. Claw like shape of the blade allows for easy transfer of circular and hooking motions around the target.
Hancer uses the similar principles as Kilic (Curved Sword) at much closer distance. Dissimilar to
Kilic,
Hancer grip can be switched to forward hooking position with either blade up or blade down. This allows a larger variety of techniques at much shorter distances.
There are Four Main Parry Techniques with
Hancer. When four of these techniques are done with the blade up and four are done with the blade down, this creates Eight Basic Variations. Primary Four Parry techniques are:
- Disa - Outside Parry
- Ice - Inside Parry
- Dis Asagi - Low outside Parry
- Ice Asagi - Low Inside Parry
Further variations of these parries may be accomplished by rotating the claw of the blade to outside or to the inside, which creates thirty two possible ways to parry. Beginners practice sequence of these parries uses segments of the Four Corners Principle as displayed below. Advanced practitioners of GokNur System may use the sixteen variatons of this number combination.

At intermediate level Tokat (Open Hand) techniques are combined with Hancer parries.
The eight directional attack and defense of sword techniques may be utilized, however the main lines of use are illustrated below:
